A Watercolor Background and a Bit of Faith

It’s been super hot here in San Antonio these past few weeks, and I’ve been experimenting with the ever-popular watercolor background. It just feels so summery, with the light, airy colors and fluid designs, don’t you think? I created today’s card with the Kuretake Gansai Tambi set of watercolors.

I love how butterflies can symbolize change, hope, and renewal. There are some big changes going on behind the scenes here, and I’m gonna need a little faith to see them through! That was my inspiration for this project.

A Bit of Faith and a Watercolor Background

I used a mixture of turquoise, green, and yellow to create this background. To get the paint to blend, I did a wash of just clear water first to wet my paper then added drops of color and let the water do the work for me!

Once it was dry (it didn’t take long, but you can speed up drying time with a heat tool), I used the Flight of the Butterflies stencil with Versafine CLAIR in Nocturne to get the butterflies on there, then I heat embossed them with Black Embossing Powder. I gave the sentiment the same treatment (sans stencil, of course). It comes from Whimsy’s Stained Glass Scripture Sentiments set. Isn’t the font lovely?!

To finish off this card front, I trimmed the watercolor background with the smaller rectangle from the Card Builder Windows die set and layered it over a piece of Bazzill cardstock in Robin’s Egg. Then I adhered the front onto my card base.

Thanks for poppin’ in today! Oh, and don’t forget to pin today’s card on your inspiration board on Pinterest!
